VoIP Phones

Before buying a VoIP phone there are a few options to consider. Firstly your usage, a regular traveler may consider a softphone a more appropriate purchase. This means a headset, a laptop running some VoIP software and a connection to broadband from anywhere in the world will enable the user to have a fully functioning VoIP phone. The beauty of VoIP is that no matter where in the world you may be, your VoIP contact number will always remain the same. For the business traveler this is a tremendous asset as it will no longer require them to constantly update friends and clients with contact details, their VoIP number will be the same in Tokyo as it is in New York.
VoIP Phone Choices

For the residential or home VoIP user there is always the option to use a VoIP softphone in much the same way as the traveler, but with the more permanence of a home environment, implementing VoIP in a residential setting has a couple more options. For example, a VoIP adaptor may be used which would enable an ordinary analogue or cordless phone to be connected to a VoIP system. Another option would be to buy a VoIP hardware phone, these plug directly into the Ethernet port on the home’s broadband network. Often referred to as a broadband phone or Internet phone, this ingenious piece of kit will communicate directly with a VoIP gateway via the Ethernet port. This direct link to the VoIP gateway also eliminates the requirement for a personal computer and software, because while ever the VoIP phone is plugged into a broadband connection you are able to make and receive VoIP calls.
VoIP Handsets

The new generation of VoIP phones mimic the look and feel of traditional analogue phones, however they can also be packed with additional features such as auto updating phone book, missed call logs and email notification of voicemail messages etc. Even though software based VoIP usually works out considerably cheaper than a hardware VoIP phone, there can be differences in the sound quality, so it’s often worthy of the extra investment. Hardware VoIP phones are manufactured with internal chips dedicated solely to maintaining call clarity, while the audio settings are carefully calibrated in order to maintain comfortable sound levels, in fact callers will never know you are using a hardware VoIP phone unless you actually tell them so.
